Choosing a Good Dressmaker Dummy

Making a dress is fun and exciting for a dress designer. It is not because they are designers of clothes but they are able to produce something that is beautiful and can be worn which is the fun of making dress. Creativity and gifted hands is what is required before one can be a dress designer. Apart from these talents, the issue of producing these dresses and another trivial issue, a dressmaker dummy comes to play.   This art is an artificial skeletal human model that first wears a designer’s product when it is being produced and when it is finished. It is on this dressmaker dummy that a particular dress would be finished upon and this is time consuming which is why a human is not suitable for this.

When a dress is unfinished, a designer needs to use the dressmaker dummy in doing the finishing work because it has the body shape of a human and provides the designer with, (1) if the dress would fit a real human’s body (2) the symmetry of the dress (3) if the dress would fit the client’s body which is very important. Most times, a dressmaker customizes a dressmaker dummy that would suit the demand of a dress. One can demand for this but it is expensive but the benefit is a dress that would tailor fit a client without corrections later.

These dressmaker dummies are in various shapes. They arrive with soft cushions on the shoulder and chest parts with a simple tight set of strong wires. The full body cushions are in different colours down to the thigh regions. Some variations can include the arms, legs and head which are purpose specified. For a designer of hats or head accessories, a head is included in the dummy while those with arms are for long, tight sleeved dress.

When we talk about a dressmaker dummy with a full body cushion, it is for those designers who are still finishing their dresses.
